About Me

Welcome to my site! I’m a teacher turned writer. This past year I took a leave of absence from my classroom to write my first fiction novel. I started this book three years ago, but it was very challenging to find time to write while working full-time and raising a family.

My husband and I have two sons. For me, becoming a mother was all-encompassing and it was hard to remember what my own interests and passions were, but I kept coming back to the same thing. I have always loved language. In elementary school I won spelling bees and went to writer’s workshops, joined the gifted and talented readers group and read a ton in my free time. I proudly held the title of most Accelerated Reader (AR) points earned in my school district in 5th grade until a new student (she knows who she is) came to town and unexpectedly de-throned me. I’m not sure how I recovered!

I would often play “school” with my younger sister and I always had to be the teacher. When I graduated high school I pursued a degree in secondary education to teach Spanish. My passion has always been to be an educator, and although I am out of the classroom I believe books have taught me so much about myself and life in general, that in becoming an author I can continue to educate, just in a new way.

There have been many learning experiences for me during the writing process: learning how to outline and design a story, develop characters, incorporate the scene, and write strong dialogue. As I get closer every day to a completed manuscript I can’t help but want to share with all of you the steps I took to becoming a published author, as well as writing techniques, book reviews and more!
